The AmeriCorps' Jumpstart program is where I got my start working with young children at the pre-kindergarten level. I gained a better understanding of how children at this age learn from their surroundings. Once I graduated, I began tutoring at a higher grade level. Eighth graders were my focus. I worked with those who were home-schooled to help them with the subjects of Math and Science. I have also tutored my classmates and colleagues on difficult subjects like Physiology, Anatomy, and Biochemistry.Brooklyn College is where I obtained my degree. I studied Biology. I also minored in Anthropology. I then went on to earn my master's degree in the Public Health field while attending St. George's University. It is located in Grenada in the West Indies. I had a concentration in Health Behaviors and Policy.I worked in Grenada on community health projects and Needs Assessments. I worked with local authorities to improve overall health in the community I stayed in, Grand Anse Valley. Working in this atmosphere helped me develop an affinity for Public Health.Confidence is key in learning. I have realized that students who lack confidence in their abilities are those that often struggle with their work. I work with students individually to help them gain the confidence they need to become successful.
